Builder found for salmon Aquatraz

Norway-based MNH-production and local Fosen Yard have agreed a contract to build a trial marine aquaculture concept dubbed Aquatraz.

The shipyard gig comes in the aftermath of MNH acquiring four development permits in late April for offshore salmon-farming off coastal Norway. The Aquatraz concept features a steel, partially closed pen developed by Seafarming Systems in Stavanger.

The 160-meter-wide trial pen is designed to be used with existing farm pontoons and will be delivered in May 2018. An option exists to build three more, should the contract parties like what they see.

The design is one of many novel designs submitted for Fisheries Ministry approval over the past two years.
