Nova Sea and partners want to develop an ocean farm with a converted drilling platform as a base.

According to Bronnoysund Avis, the investment cost will be around €69m, and the farm will have a capacity of 15,000 tonnes of salmon.

The plan is to remove drilling equipment on drilling platforms that are not in use, then install warehouses, living quarters for workers, power supplies and other necessary components in a modern ocean farm.

According to Odd Strom, General Manager of Nova Sea, the company has applied for 20 development permits to realize the project.

“The outcome of the application is crucial. The project is very exciting, but it is obviously linked to many risk factors, as well as high investment costs,” he says.
