Two outbreaks in Newfoundland and Labrador, Eastern Canada, force salmon farmer to harvest early.
In a statement, Cooke reports its Cold Ocean Salmon division has received positive test results confirming the viral disease ISA (Infectious Salmon Anaemia) at two sites.
One was at the Robin Hood Cove marine cage site located near Gaultois, NL, and contains eight cages that are stocked with approximately 611,000 salmon, And another is at a site located near Hermitage, NL, which contains three cages that are stocked with approximately 234,000 salmon.
The company is planning to remove the fish using approved and biosecure Standard Operating Procedures.
In mid-July, the virus was discovered at another Cold Ocean Salmon farm affecting 340,000 salmon. That means that Cooke has had to harvest 1.1 million salmon early this month alone.
