Man rushed to hospital after falling overboard from wellboat

At 01:00 on Tuesday, the Main Rescue Centre in Northern Norway, wrote on Twitter that a Sea King helicopter Banak airbase had evacuated an injured crew member from a vessel east of Måsøy in Finnmark.

“A patient is being flown to Hammerfest Hospital for further treatment,” it wrote.

On Tuesday morning, the national rescue centre confirmed SalmonBusiness that it is a wellboat, which is now heading south after a stop in Hammerfest, the northernmost town in the world.

“We know nothing about the course of events. The case has been reported to the Labour Inspection Authority and is under investigation,” the press department from the national rescue centre told SalmonBusiness.

Norsk Fisketransport Managing director Oddleif Wigdahl confirmed that it was company’s wellboat “Namsos”.

“One of the crew onboard the wellboat “Namsos” has been flown to hospital after falling overboard late Monday night. The accident happened at 11.45pm on Monday 15th September. Norsk Fisketransport’s wellboat “Namsos” was then east of Måsøy in Finnmark. The man was quickly picked up by crews onboard. He was then flown to hospital by helicopter for further monitoring of health. The shipping company has notified and follows up next of kin, and cooperates closely with the authority,” said Wigdahl.
