“Gåsø Høvding” has been launched at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey.
The new wellboat is 83.2 meters long and 30.9 meters wide. The physical format is new and innovative in the wellboat industry.
“There are currently no well boats to compare with. “Gåsø Høvding” takes the wellboat industry one step further,” said operations director wellboat Oddleif Wigdahl in the shippping company Frøy to SalmonBusiness.
Møre Maritime has done the design of the boat, while Cflow delivers the fish handling. They have worked closely with Frøy on the innovative wellboat project for a long time.
Large boat
“Our customer needed a large boat. We worked on several different options, but eventually landed on this one. Design and flexibility are the way our customer wants it,” said project manager Einride Wingan in Frøy.
A total of six Frøy employees work in shifts at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey, where the steel cutting for the new building started a year ago. This week, the launch was carried out as an undramatic “floatoff”.
“It is a good feeling to finally get “Høvdingen” at sea,” Wingan said.
“The collaboration with shipyards and subcontractors has been good. In such projects, one always encounters some challenges, but they have not been worse than they have been solved along the way. We are now in the equipment period. There is a lot that needs to be in place, and it will be a hectic period in the future,” he added.
“Gåsø Høvding” has a total well volume of 7,500 cubic meters. The wellboat is equipped with negative pressure sorting and removal of all types of cleaning fish, freshwater treatment with reuse, 12-line hydrolysers and an advanced and automated hygiene system.
“Frøy is a demanding customer, but we have good partners both domestically and abroad. These, and especially Møre Maritime and Cflow, have contributed to the realization of this project. I would also like to point out that Frøy’s employees have done a brilliant job over the past year, despite the challenges the pandemic has posed with regard to commuting between Norway and Turkey,” said Wingan.
Five wellboats under construction
Frøy has five well boats under construction. Four of these will be completed in 2021. The 3,200 cubic meter “Reisa” was handed over earlier in January. «Reisa»’s two new sister ships will be handed over in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, respectively. “Gåsø Høvding” will be handed over this summer. A fifth contracted wellboat will be delivered in 2022.
