Loch Duart bought the 52,000 square foot facility last year. Now it has been refurbished.
RossShire Journal reports that Loch Duart said that it is ready to “close the circle” for its own fish processing facility. Sutherland and Uist-based salmon farmer bought the site last June.
“Now, for the first time, Loch Duart has started processing its own salmon. Our beautiful new branded boxes are rolling out of our Dingwall plant for distribution to customers worldwide,” said managing director Mark Warrington.
Loch Duart’s Dingwall processing facility general manager Russell Leslie added that the “great thing about these premises is the quality of the build and the exceptional amount of space”.
“This extra space allows us to handle the physical distancing of our staff while making no compromises on the quality of the packing and filleting,” he said.
On the opening, Scotland’s cabinet secretary for rural economy Fergus Ewing told the publication that this is “an excellent example of the positive economic and social impact that salmon farming has in our remote and rural communities”.
The Edinburgh Salmon Company (ESCo) site was closed with the loss of over 160 jobs following an announcement by owners Européenne de la Mer (a subsidiary of Thai Union Group) in 2018.
