15,000 to 20,000 extra tonnes of farmed Atlantic salmon annually.
CBC reports that the Newfoundland department issued an expression of interest last October for the Bays West area.
Fisheries Minister Derrick Bragg said that, if developed, the area could produce 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes of farmed Atlantic salmon annually.
“I’m going to visit some aquaculture companies and see what’s going on. The Bays West is an opportunity for potential for growth for the province,” he said.
Bragg added that a decision on which company will move into the Bays West area is expected in the autumn of 2021.
