Biz Journals reports that the salmon feed giant Skretting has filed an inquiry with officials regarding a 20-acre agricultural property west of Homestead, Florida.
Skretting, which has a supply contract with Atlantic Sapphire’s facilities in both Denmark and the United States, is exploring building the facility so it can be closer to its customer.
At the moment, Atlantic Sapphire buys salmon feed from Skretting’s facility in New Brunswick, Canada.
Atlantic Sapphire CFO and managing director Karl Øystein Øyehaug told the publication that “for our future feed supply, as volume requirements increase, we are considering various options, but these are all in preliminary stages.”
This month, it was reported that the company harvested 421 tonnes of salmon in Miami in the first quarter, below analyst’s expectations.
The Miami Bluehouse has a production capacity of 9,500 tonnes and Atlantic Sapphire is aiming for 220,000 tonnes of annual capacity by 2031.
