Five tonnes underway.
In a statement, AquaBounty writes that its genetically engineered Atlantic salmon harvest is underway at its Indiana farm and will be complete by the end of May.
“After years of research, innovation, and anticipation, AquaBounty’s first commercial GE salmon harvest has begun. As we speak, our AquaBounty team is harvesting salmon for U.S. distribution,” said CEO Sylvia Wulf.
The entire harvest has already been sold to a range of companies including Philadelphia-based seafood distributor Samuels and Son Seafood Co.
The headline has been amended from “first harvest” to “first Indiana harvest”. Back in 2017, the company sold some 4.5 tonnes of GM fish to customers in Canada, reported Nature.
