Rally after last Friday’s price drop.
“It took a long time before it happened. But now we have sold about 15 trucks,” said a sales person at a fish farming company to SalmonBusiness.
He presented the following farmgate prices for next week:[factbox]
- 2-3 kg NOK 50 (EUR 4.9)
- 3-4 kg NOK 54-55 (EUR 5.3-5.4)
- 4-5 kg NOK 57-58 (EUR 5.6-5.8)
- 5-6 kg NOK 61 (EUR 6)
- 6+ kg NOK 67 (EUR 6.6)
“2-3 and 3-4 kg have come up the most. I do not know if it is a little less ISA fish or if there are new suppliers for next week. In any case, we have received a nice price increase of 2-3 and 3-4 on our fish.”
Others see even higher prices.
“The boom is coming now,” said a sales director at a fish farming company to SalmonBusiness.
“Now they confirm 55 kroner (EUR 5.4) at 3-4, 60 kroner (EUR 5.9) at 4-5 and 65 kroner (EUR 6.4) at 5-6. It’s up a lot from last Friday.”
“The big fish is stable, 2-4 has gone up a couple of kroner. Same price at 4-6. It is more similar, it will not be the big leap anymore,” said an exporter.
“It was not normal that there was such a large price spread between 3 and 6 kilos,” he added, and referred to these prices:
- 2-3 kg NOK 49 (EUR 4.8)
- 3-4 kg NOK 54 (EUR 5.3)
- 4-5 kg NOK 56-57 (EUR 5.5-5.6)
- 5-6 kg NOK 59 (EUR 5.8)
- 6+ kg NOK 63 (EUR 6.2)
“It’s been a good week. We can’t complain. Of course there are more and more 5+ around. It is growing well,” he said.
However, the price increase is primarily for small fish.
“Not on big fish, I feel. There are problems with flights to China,” said an exporter who specializes in air freight of big salmon.
“This week I have bought at 62, 65, 70 and 71 kroner. Slightly different prices all for big fish. Next week I have so far bought a little at 70 kroner,” he said.
