Eighteen tons of frozen salmon valued at roughly $270,000 was stolen from a cargo truck by two armed men while the truck driver was at a roadside rest area last Monday, September 5.
The truck came from the Chilean city of Puerto Natales in the Magallanes region and was on its way to deliver the salmon to the city of Santiago in the Metropolitan region.
The driver told police that two perpetrators with face coverings intimidated him “with weapons, apparently firearms” and forced him to transfer the frozen salmon to another vehicle. The robbers handcuffed the driver before they fled in the other vehicle with their precious loot, reported news outlet AQUA Media.

The perpetrators remain at large and there’s still no information about the whereabouts of the other vehicle that they used, the report said.
