Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) is also considering the possibility of pursuing legal action against Staniford.
Norwegian salmon farming giant Mowi has won a court-ordered ban against Don Staniford, a well-known anti-salmon farming activist, through the Scottish Courts.
This legal outcome is now prompting Scottish Sea Farms to explore the possibility of taking similar legal steps, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The Oban Sheriff Court heard both parties’ arguments in June, with Sheriff Andrew Berry subsequently granting an order of interdict. Staniford is now prohibited from approaching within 15 meters of Mowi’s salmon aquaculture farming sites and from flying drones above these locations.
The Sheriff rejected Staniford’s argument that the interdict would impede his right of navigation and activities as a campaigner or journalist. Staniford has lodged an appeal against the decision.
Scottish Sea Farms, co-owned by Leroy Seafood and SalMar, is also considering legal action against Staniford, accusing him of accessing its fish farms and facilities without consent. The company has demanded that Staniford cease his actions by October 27, threatening court proceedings if he fails to comply.
Staniford has a history of legal conflicts with salmon farming companies, including a defamation case brought by Cermaq in 2014 and recent protests against a land-based salmon farming project in Grimsby, UK.
