Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) has been confirmed at Mowi’s Munkskjæra sea location (site 36877) in Frøya municipality, Trøndelag county, according to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.

The company first notified the Norwegian Food Safety Authority of suspected ISA on 31 May, following PCR test results. The diagnosis was confirmed on 12 June, based on histopathological findings compatible with ILA and detection of the ILA virus using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR methods.

These results were analyzed and verified by the Veterinary Institute, the national reference laboratory for ILA.

To prevent the potential spread of the infection, the site is now under restrictions, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has the authority to order the site to be emptied if necessary.
