While the facility has been tested before, this is the first time it is being tested with fish.
Norwegian aquaculture technology company ScaleAQ has introduced fish into its submersible system, known as the Subsea system, for the first time.
The company hailed this as a significant milestone in a press release issued on Thursday.
“Reaching this milestone in the Subsea project is a fantastic achievement, and it is the result of tremendous teamwork and the extensive interdisciplinary expertise at ScaleAQ,” said Terje Aasland, senior project manager at ScaleAQ.
The Subsea system originated from development permits applied for in 2015. The solutions now in operation closely resemble the concepts the company had at that time. While the facility has been tested before, this is the first time it is being tested with fish.
The unit accommodates nearly 200,000 fish.
“This success is a team victory that everyone at ScaleAQ is proud of. I especially want to commend those who have worked on the front lines at sea and those who have closely collaborated to develop functional solutions. Their effort, determination, and flexibility have been crucial in achieving our goal,” Aasland added.
ScaleAQ did not disclose the customer’s identity. This information was also withheld when the company announced in March that two locations would adopt the technology.
