The Norwegian National Road Administration has banned two trucks from use following checks on the E6 in Sørfold on Wednesday.

The vehicles were prohibited due to the discharge of mucus and blood from their loads, while two modular wagon trains were stopped north of Straumen and banned for not being permitted on that stretch of road.

The Norwegian Road Administration emphasized that these checks are crucial for ensuring road safety for all users.

“Runoff from fish transport can cause slippery and hazardous road conditions, posing a danger to the environment. By stopping these vehicles, we avoid traffic-dangerous situations,” the Road Administration wrote in a press release.

The need for safe roads is heightened in the summer months due to increased traffic from tourism in Nordland. Inspector Tom Are Pettersen noted that deviations are commonly found during road checks, emphasizing that the more frequently checks are conducted, the more issues are uncovered.

A spot check conducted by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration on heavy goods vehicles originating from the island of Lovund in Luroy municipality last year found that 38% of the trucks checked were unfit for use.
