Norwegian feed producer Polarfeed’s factory in Øksfjord, Finnmark, has become the first European facility of its kind to receive ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certification.

The company announced the achievement in a press release on Monday.

The ASC certification is known for its stringent environmental and social requirements, primarily awarded to farming locations within the aquaculture industry. Polarfeed’s Øksfjord factory is the first in Europe to meet these standards, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Thomas Pettersen, Chief Operating Officer of Polarfeed, emphasized the importance of the certification for their operations. “The certification was crucial for delivering to customers with ASC-certified locations, and it has also helped us better systematize our sustainability efforts. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our fantastic team at Polarfeed,” Pettersen stated.

While companies like Skretting have previously achieved ASC certification, they did so outside of Europe. Polarfeed’s certification highlights their commitment to producing fish feed that supports both fish health and customer outcomes.

Pettersen added, “We consistently see that making the right choices in raw materials can significantly impact production time, fish health, and harvest quality.”
