Sterner, a Norwegian company specializing in water purification, has announced the appointment of Stian Johnsen as its new CEO.

Johnsen, who has been with the company since 2019, takes over from former CEO Bjarne E. Pettersen, following a transition period.

“Stian Johnsen emerged as the natural choice among several strong candidates,” said Chairman Johannes Sundet. “His leadership is crucial as Sterner continues to navigate significant changes. The board has full confidence in Johnsen’s ability to lead the company into a new era.”

With nearly 20 years of experience in the process industries, including oil and gas, waste treatment, and aquaculture, Johnsen brings extensive expertise in water treatment and sustainable technology. Over the past year, he has served as Project Director at Sterner, focusing on the company’s aquaculture projects.

Johnsen’s appointment comes after a challenging restructuring process for Sterner, following a pause in its land-based aquaculture investments. Under his leadership, the company plans to advance its position as a technology provider in water treatment.

“I’m honored to take on this role and build on the solid foundation Sterner has established. I look forward to strengthening our position as a leading provider of innovative water treatment technology,” said Johnsen.

Sterner operates across multiple sectors, including land-based fish farming, wellboat technology, and drinking and wastewater treatment. With an annual turnover of over NOK 300 million ($30 million), Sterner continues to expand its core business.
