Norwegian Veterinary Institute announces new Managing Director

The board of the Norwegian Veterinary Institute has announced the appointment of Gun Peggy Knudsen as the new managing director, effective January 1, 2025.

Knudsen, 49, is currently assistant director at the Institute of Public Health and will serve a six-year term in her new role.

“I am very much looking forward to leading the Veterinary Institute at a time when the social mission is more important than ever,” Knudsen stated in a press release. “I look forward to working on tasks related to knowledge development and preparedness and getting to know the skilled professional communities.”

Knudsen has a background in medical genetics, with a doctorate from the University of Oslo, and extensive leadership experience from the Institute of Public Health, where she has held various senior roles since 2014. Her appointment was welcomed by the acting chairman of the board, Inger Solberg, who praised Knudsen’s broad expertise and management experience, particularly in digitalization.

Øyvind Fylling-Jensen, currently acting managing director, will return to his role as chairman of the board on January 1, 2025.
