VCU Robotics has developed a new pick-and-place machine designed to automate the handling of salmon at Korf Vis.
Dutch start-up VCU Robotics, a specialist in custom pick-and-place systems for the fish processing industry, has successfully implemented a new automation system at Korf Vis, a leading fish processing company in Urk that also handles salmon.
The new machine, which was developed with financial backing from the “Kansen Voor West” initiative and support from the Dutch Fish Federation and Urk Fish Association, marks a significant leap forward in automated salmon processing.
The system features four delta robots equipped with advanced clamp grippers, designed to handle a range of salmon products, including fillets, tails, and rider cards. One of the robots is equipped with suction technology for the precise placement of rider cards into molds, improving the accuracy and efficiency of the production process.
The automation system integrates with existing machinery at Korf Vis, including the BORNCUT portioning machine and MULTIVAC packaging machine, streamlining the handling of salmon fillets and increasing production capacity, according to the company.
This innovation, part of the PrecisionPack project, offers Korf Vis a fully automated solution for salmon processing, ensuring consistency in quality control and significant operational improvements.
