Rostein orders new wellboat in collaboration with Helgeland producers.

Norwegian wellboat operator Rostein has announced the order of a new vessel, according to a press release issued on Monday morning.

The vessel, commissioned in partnership with fish farmers along the Helgeland coast, will be built by Larsens Mek Verksted in Sunnmøre and is scheduled for delivery in 2026.

“We have enjoyed a long and successful collaboration with producers in the Helgeland area. Thanks to the cooperation of Lovundlaks Sjø, Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, Seløy Sjøfarm, and Kobbvåglaks, we now have the confidence to move forward with an investment of this scale,” said Glen Bradley, Vice President of Rostein.

The new wellboat boasts a 3,700 cubic meter capacity and will be equipped with a battery-hybrid system, along with the latest technological solutions for fish welfare and parasite control. Bradley added that the project is expected to create 15 to 16 new jobs.

Kjetil Fjellgaard of Lovundlaks Sjø, one of the companies involved in the contract, highlighted the importance of this investment for the aquaculture sector. “Ongoing technological development and increased capacity will significantly improve fish welfare,” Fjellgaard noted.

He also pointed to the wider impact of investing in Norwegian shipbuilding, underlining the positive ripple effects for the country’s maritime industry.
