Traffic on Norway’s E6 highway came to a halt on Tuesday night following an accident involving a lorry train carrying a substantial load of salmon.
The incident occurred in Nordreisa, Troms, where the vehicle veered off the road, scattering salmon across both lanes and temporarily closing the main route through Nord-Troms.
“It must be loaded with large quantities of salmon, and there is now salmon strewn all over the E6,” Christian Andreassen, operations manager with the Troms police district, told NRK. “The wagon train has sheared off, and there are large quantities of salmon lying across the road. Clean-up and car recovery will take some time, and there will be manual routing on the E6 for the time being.”
According to the police log at 01:39, the road was expected to remain closed while crews worked on recovery and cleanup.
The E6 reopened early Wednesday morning at 05:53 after a prolonged effort to clear the salmon and address safety issues on the slick road surface. There were no serious injuries reported in connection with the accident.
The E6, Norway’s longest highway, is a critical transportation artery, running through major regions from southern Norway to the Arctic. Incidents along this route can cause significant disruption, particularly when they involve cargo like fresh salmon, one of Norway’s key exports.
