Mowi, the world’s largest supplier of farmed salmon, has elected Ørjan Svanevik as its new chairman following the resignation of Ole-Eirik Lerøy.
The decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Lerøy, who joined Mowi’s board in 2009 and became chairman in 2010, announced on October 24 that he would not seek re-election. “It has been an honor to serve Mowi during its time as the world’s largest supplier of farmed salmon,” Lerøy said at the time.
He oversaw its expansion into a fully integrated seafood company, operating in seven countries including Norway, Scotland, Canada, and Chile.
The company’s election committee had proposed Svanevik, an experienced executive and investor, to succeed Lerøy.
Svanevik has held positions as CEO of Arendals Fossekompani, Head of M&A at Aker, and Chief Operating Officer at Kværner. He also holds board roles at Axactor, Western Bulk, and Paratus Energy.
The new board of Mowi is composed of:

- Peder Strand
- Lisbet Karin Nærø
- Kjersti Hobøl
- Leif Teksum
Svanevik will serve as chairman for up to two years or until Mowi’s 2026 ordinary general meeting. Mowi, headquartered in Bergen, Norway, employs 11,500 people across 26 countries.
