Norwegian safety equipment supplier SHM Solutions has entered the Chilean market, aiming to introduce its established solutions for service vessels to improve operational safety and efficiency.
The company’s equipment, already utilized in Norway and Tasmania, is designed to streamline workflows and reduce crew sizes while enhancing safety standards.
In November, SHM Solutions’ CEO, Yngve Bøe Myklebust, met with local companies Oxxean and Ultrasea in Puerto Montt to discuss potential pilot projects. These initiatives aim to adapt SHM’s technologies to the Chilean service vessel industry.
“We see great potential for Chilean operators to achieve similar benefits as the Norwegian service vessel industry, including streamlining workflows, improving safety, and increasing efficiency,” said Myklebust.
SHM’s equipment includes plate locks and chain and rope locking systems, which enable operators to perform tasks with fewer manual steps and less physical risk. The solutions integrate remote radio controls, allowing operators to work from safe areas.
“In Norway, service vessels typically operate with three crew members, compared to seven or eight in Chile. By reducing manual processes, we aim to deliver both operational and safety improvements,” Myklebust noted.
Ultrasea’s Operations Manager, Hugo Aguilar, expressed optimism about the collaboration: “We are confident this equipment will revolutionize safety management while increasing productivity. We look forward to implementing it on one of our vessels.”
SHM Solutions is targeting the development of standardized safety systems in Chile, mirroring practices established over the last decade in Norway.
The company plans to further its engagement in the Chilean aquaculture sector through pilot projects and continued collaboration with local operators.
