A scheduled court hearing for Bakkafrost Scotland’s application for an interim interdict (injunction) against anti-salmon farming activist Don Staniford has been cancelled after the two parties reached a temporary agreement.

Staniford has agreed to refrain from accessing Bakkafrost Scotland’s marine sites until the matter is resolved, negating the need for the hearing, which was set for December 23.

Bakkafrost is pursuing a permanent interdict against Staniford that includes broader restrictions than those imposed on him by Scotland’s largest salmon farmer, Mowi, in 2023. While Mowi’s interdict prohibits Staniford from activities such as mooring his kayak to salmon pens and climbing on pen walkways, Bakkafrost is seeking additional measures, including a 15-metre exclusion zone around its pens, a ban on drone flights over its farms, and restrictions on encouraging others to engage in similar activities.

The application follows Mowi’s successful defense of its interdict earlier this year, which upheld prohibitions on Staniford’s core activities. However, certain conditions, including the exclusion zone and drone restrictions, were dropped by Mowi during an appeal hearing in February.

An options hearing on Bakkafrost’s application for a permanent interdict is scheduled to take place at Dunoon Sheriff Court on February 18, 2025.
