Bue Salmon and Bolaks forge strategic partnership.

Norwegian aquaculture companies Bue Salmon and Bolaks Group have announced a three-year strategic partnership aimed at integrating land- and sea-based production. The collaboration will see Bue Salmon producing post-smolt for Bolaks while the two companies work together on knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance sustainability and efficiency in salmon farming.

Predictable Supply Chain Collaboration

Under the agreement, Bue Salmon will receive smolt from Bolaks’ majority-owned Sævareid Fiskeanlegg, upgrading them to post-smolt at its land-based facility in Bulandet. These post-smolt will then be delivered to Bolaks’ sea farming sites. This supply chain alignment aims to optimize production cycles, improve fish welfare, and strengthen the operations of both companies.

“This partnership is a fantastic opportunity for Bue Salmon,” said Knut Eikeland, CEO of Bue Salmon. “Not only do we secure predictability and profitability, but we also establish close cooperation with one of the country’s leading aquaculture environments. We share a strong focus on fish welfare and look forward to learning from each other.”

Joint Focus on Innovation and Sustainability

Beyond operational integration, the collaboration emphasizes innovation, with both companies exploring synergies between land- and sea-based salmon farming. The partnership aims to develop advanced techniques for sustainable production, addressing emerging industry challenges.

“By combining our expertise in smolt production and sea-based farming with Bue Salmon’s specialization in post-smolt and land-based production, we have a unique opportunity to explore the synergies between land and sea,” said Karina Antonsen Hjelle, CEO of Bolaks.

Strategic Benefits for Both Partners

For Bue Salmon, the agreement provides a stable revenue stream and supports the company’s expansion plans at Lutelandet. Bolaks, in turn, benefits from a reliable supply of robust post-smolt, which reduces production time at sea and aligns with its strategy of producing sustainable, high-quality salmon in Bjørnafjorden.

Bolaks Group, a fully integrated aquaculture company, operates across the value chain from roe production to market-ready salmon. Founded in 1975, Bolaks is a producer of Atlantic salmon with operations focused on smolt production, sea-based farming, and roe production.
