Aurora Fiskeldi to develop 28,000-ton land-based farm.
Icelandic startup Aurora Fiskeldi ehf is set to construct a 28,000-ton land-based fish farm at Grundartangi in Hvalfjörður, north of Reykjavik. The project will be implemented in three phases and will utilise proven flow-through technology, designed to reduce energy costs through low lifting height of seawater and potential heat reuse from nearby industrial facilities.
The company was founded by Helgi G. Sigurdsson and Jóhannes Sigurdsson, both experienced professionals in the Icelandic salmon farming sector. They previously oversaw the construction of a 27,000 m³ seawater post-smolt facility in Southwest Iceland, with an annual production capacity of approximately 1,000 tons of post-smolt up to 1,200 grams.
