ScaleAQ to open new facility in Fort William as part of UK expansion
Norwegian aquaculture technology company ScaleAQ will officially open a new facility in Fort William next week, strengthening its presence in the UK market and enhancing local support for salmon producers in the region.
The new site marks a significant investment by ScaleAQ, which supplies a broad range of technical solutions to the aquaculture industry, including pens, feeding systems, camera monitoring, mooring equipment, and software. The company says the Fort William facility will act as a key service and logistics hub for its operations across Scotland, one of the largest salmon-producing regions in Europe.
“This marks a major milestone for us in ScaleAQ as a world-leading technology supplier to the aquaculture industry,” the company said in a statement. “With this expansion, we are getting even closer to our customers in the UK, providing them with the equipment, service, and support they need.”
The company, which began in Scotland under the Steinsvik name in 2009, and rebranded to ScaleAQ in 2019, said the move strengthens its commitment to the UK and Irish markets. The new site, located in the Ben Nevis Industrial Estate, will serve as a hub for equipment, service, and support to local aquaculture operators.
The opening event will begin at 12:00 with lunch and networking, followed by an address from Tavish Scott, CEO of Salmon Scotland. A grand opening ceremony will follow, led by Connor Foster, ScaleAQ’s Global Service Director.
Presentations from Graham Smith, Senior Advisor Seabased UK & Ireland, and Tor Henrik Haavik, Sales Director North Atlantic, will outline the company’s ambitions for local engagement and future growth. The day concludes with a tour of the facility and its product range.
In addition to enhancing service delivery, the investment will also create new local jobs. ScaleAQ said it is looking to expand its team in Scotland and improve working conditions for existing staff.
