Great Northern Salmon forms strategic partnership with Eyvi for US land-based aquaculture development.
US-based aquaculture company Great Northern Salmon has announced a strategic partnership with Norwegian RAS (recirculating aquaculture system) specialist Eyvi, covering the development of land-based salmon and trout farming projects in the United States.
Under the agreement, Eyvi will act as RAS vendor for Great Northern Salmon’s Millinocket facility in Maine, which is designed for an annual production capacity of 7,500 metric tons of Atlantic salmon. In addition to the commercial collaboration, Eyvi’s owners are making a strategic investment in Great Northern Salmon.
Eyvi has previously developed Hima’s 8,000-metric-ton land-based trout farm in Rjukan, Norway, which is scheduled to begin commercial harvest this summer. Eyvi is also engaged in the design and construction of Arctic Seafarm’s facility in Norway and brings experience from multiple large-scale RAS projects.
Great Northern Salmon’s management team includes industry veterans with permitting and operational experience in the US and internationally. The company has secured key permits and is progressing with site preparations in Maine.
“The strategic synergies between the parties became clear during discussions this winter,” said Marianne Naess, CEO of Great Northern Salmon. “We’re impressed by Eyvi’s experience and design capabilities, and equally by the value of having shared ambitions for the U.S. market.”
Eyvi’s Chief Business Development Officer Heidi Kyvik added: “We’ve been impressed with Great Northern Salmon’s approach to RAS and U.S. market development. We see strong mutual value in combining our expertise.”
Further details of the partnership are expected to be released at a later stage.
