The facility will provide 55 new jobs to the community, as well as a €2.2 million boost to the local economy.
According to The Press and Journal, the new plant in Scotland will be one of the most efficient and sustainable of its kind in the world when completed next year.
Local MSP (Member of the Scottish Parliament) Kate Forbes said: “There are a lot of exciting plans for economic growth in the Highlands at the moment and the feed plant at Kyleakin is key to that. Scottish food and drink is growing rapidly and it’s our Highland produce, including salmon, that is driving that.
“I’m delighted that Marine Harvest’s site in Kyleakin will export Scottish produce internationally and I hope that it will transform the local community with jobs and opportunities.”
