A Marine Harvest site in Tysvaer, outside Haugesund in Norway, is being checked for presence of the virus.
“We can confirm that ISA (Infectious salmon anemia) is suspected at the Halsavika facility,” communications director of Marine Harvest, Ola Helge Hjetland, tells SalmonBusiness.
The site, operated by Marine Harvest and Finnoy Fisk, is located just east of Haugesund. According to Barentswatch, it has a maximum permitted biomass of 3,600 tonnes of salmon.
“We are now investigating the health of the fish throughout the facility, and we are discussing with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority how to handle the situation in the best possible way,” Hjetland continues.
