On Wednesday, Marine Harvest published photos on Facebook, showing work on its new fish feed plant in Kyleakin, Scotland. The new photos show hectic construction activity at the site.
“Build progressing well at our site in Kyleakin; pictures are of site activities and feed mill structure and of remaining pier structure after cap demolition of old structure,” said Marine Harvest on Facebook.
The factory will produce feed for use at the company’s Scottish facilities, as well as for Ireland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.
The facility will provide 55 new jobs in the community, and will be completed during 2018.
Last week Local MSP (Member of the Scottish Parliament) Kate Forbes said: “There are a lot of exciting plans for economic growth in the Highlands at the moment and the feed plant at Kyleakin is key to that. Scottish food and drink is growing rapidly and it’s our Highland produce, including salmon, that is driving that.
“I’m delighted that Marine Harvest’s site in Kyleakin will export Scottish produce internationally and I hope that it will transform the local community with jobs and opportunities.”
