‘Nyskund’, a new high-tech vessel for the transport of fish feed, will start working for BioMar in two weeks.
As part of the modernization of BioMar’s transport of fish feed, an agreement was signed in 2015 with NSK Shipping for the construction of a new feedboat. The ship was formally handed over this week by the shipyard responsible for the construction – Tersan Shipyard, in Turkey.
The ship is owned and operated by NSK Shipping.
“Last Friday, Nyksund left the dock and headed for Norway. The expected arrival at BioMar’s facility at Karmoy is in about two weeks,” said Mats Nygaard Johnsen of NSK Shipping.
Delayed delivery
“We have long been looking forward to this highly advanced vessel to operate in order to serve our customers in the best possible way. Delivery of the ship was originally planned to take place before the high season of the year. The delay from the yard has given us some challenging months, and we are looking forward to getting the boat operational,” said Tore Gunnar Wikdal of BioMar.
“Nyksund’s somewhat smaller sister ship ‘Hoydal’ arrived a few years ago with completely new solutions for bulk delivery of feed. The vessel was also the first gas-driven one of its kind, an important contribution to BioMar’s sustainability initiative,” continued Tore Gunnar Wikdal.
“This time we have further developed the technology in ‘Hoydal’, while completing BioMar’s portfolio of vessels for fish feed deliveries. It is a high-tech vessel, with state-of-the-art equipment in all areas and a loading capacity of 2,700 tonnes of fish feed. It includes an environmentally friendly LNG propulsion machine supplied by Rolls Royce. The ship is also fitted out with equipment for efficient and gentle handling of fish feed, as well as larger and more powerful thrusters and DP systems for optimal maneuverability.”
Innovative and environmentally friendly
The ship was designed in cooperation with NSK Ship Design and has a length of 81.5 meters.
“The goal has been to create an innovative and environmentally friendly solution that meets the future needs of BioMar and its customers,” said Mats Nygaard Johnsen.
“NSK Shipping is proud that BioMar once again chose us as a shipper of its finished products. NSK already owns the ships ‘Hoydal’ and ‘Nyksund II’ (formerly known as ‘Nyksund’), both of which are part of BioMar’s fleet. We are now looking forward to getting the boat home and operating for BioMar,” he concluded.
