Camanchaca transported almost three tons of filleted frozen salmon by air from Carriel Sur airport in Talcahuano, southern Chile. It is the first direct export by this route made from the region of Bíobío in southern Chile.
The 441 boxes of filleted salmon were shipped directly to Miami from Carriel Sur Airport, making it the first international shipment from the Biobio region to the United States, reports El Mundo Maritimo.
Camanchaca is the first company to export direct from Talcahuano to Miami, using the air terminal as a quicker delivery alternative to Santiago airport.
“With this shipment we are saving approximately 12 hours of truck transport time to Santiago,” said Igor Lopez, logistics manager of the Camanchaca Company. “This way our fresh salmon will reach the international market in a few hours. We expect to do this on regular basis, with around 5,000 kilos a day from Monday to Friday.”
The United States are an important destination market for Chilean salmon. From Miami salmon is being distributed to the Florida area, and the west coast of the US.
