Anders Jonas Brøns (68), founder and co-owner of Polar Seafood, was found dead at a harbour in Aalborg, Denmark on Friday.
“I can confirm that it is Anders Jonas Brøns who died. He has been identified and the family is on the way here,” said Polar Seafood chairman, Henrik Leth, to Ekstra Bladet.
Polar Seafood is Greenland’s largest privately owned company.
The accident occurred when Brøns was on his way home after a dinner at a restaurant ship at the harbor promenade. The Greenlandic news site Sermitsiaq reported that first aid was given to Brøns in an effort to revive him but it was too late.
Authorities say there is nothing to indicate any criminal activity yet.
“We have not heard anything about that. I’m definitely also sure it’s not suicide. It’s a pure accident. I know he had a deal with people on Friday night,” said Leth.
Polar Seafood owns a number of processing plants, factory trawlers, fishing boats and wild catch salmon crews, including Herting Salmon and Esbjerg JPS. In 2016, Anders Jonas Brøns was on newspaper Berlingske’s list of Denmark’s richest people.
