Lidl is working with The Hebridean Food Company to supply customers with salmon chowders for Burns Night.
Established by CEO Douglas Stewart, a lobster fisherman’s son from the picturesque Isle of North Uist, Hebridean Food Company is providing a Burns Night staple – Smoked Salmon Chowder – for Lidl reports Scotland Food And Drink.
Commenting on the partnership, Douglas said:
“Lidl has a large number of stores with a great geographical reach in Scotland, which allows us to bring our fresh soups and chowders to a wider audience. Like Lidl, we are committed to working with the best Scottish suppliers to bring customers the very finest fresh produce we can. We are a relatively small scale business so this relationship is helping us to grow our offering and put back into the local economy.”
In an email to SalmonBusiness, Stewart said: “The Hebridean Food Company sources from the Salar Smokehouse on the Isle of South Uist, who have been decorated with numerous awards for their smoked salmon products.”
The Salar Smokehouse’s main suppliers are Cooke Aquaculture but also sometimes Allan and Dey and they only use Scottish salmon.
