Third week in a row with falling prices.
“I’d say a few kroner. Down to the lower 60’s (NOK),” a Norwegian fish trader says to SalmonBusiness.
He’s supported by one of his competitors, who says the reason behind the price fall of €0.3-0.4/kilograms from last Friday: “Volume increase. It’s as simple as that. And then it should find its balance.” [factbox]
“The prices in the last couple of weeks have been above the expected average price for this year, and that is because the volumes have been low during the period,” he believes.
The five industrial players SalmonBusiness have talked to after lunch Friday refer to the following price level (paid to the farmer) for fish to be delivered next week:
- 3-6 kilograms NOK 58-60 (€6-6.2)
- 4-5 kilograms NOK 59-61 (€6.1-6.3)
- 5-6 kilograms NOK 60-62 (€6.2-6.4)
An Eastern European purchaser confirms the price level and adds that it is especially the integrated fish farmers that are running volumes now.
However, a salesperson at a fish farmer reports a somewhat higher price level than the other industrial players.
“62-63 kroner at 4-5, 63-64 kroner at 5-6 and 64-65 kroner at 6-7,” he says, adding: “It is good activity now. Our customers say they have a lot of requests. I don’t think we’re going to go down that much.”
