The figure of 47,726 was revealed in the latest Fish Farm Production Survey.
It comes after Salmon Business revealed last December that Mowi, formerly Marine Harvest, had suffered a fish escape where almost 25,000 salmon had gone into the wild.
But the updated figure is compiled from five fish escapes that happened in 2018. There were also three more incidents where fish could have escaped.
