Last week, SalmonBusiness reported that BluGlacier CEO Sebastian Goycoolea said that the US sales joint venture between salmon farmers Blumar and Productos del Mar Ventisqueros was only operating at 40 per-cent.
Salmon farmers are operating in a country where hundreds of thousands of people are rallying across the country and in its capital, Santiago, calling for social justice. To date, at least 17 people have been killed and hundreds more injured. Furthermore, its President dismissed the country’s entire whole cabinet in order to form a new government, reports the BBC.
Chile’s farming region in Los Lagos has seen multiple large scale protests which have bit salmon farming operations – especially on the processing level.
Salmones Camanchaca – which is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange has a 2019 volume guidance of 55,00o tonnes a year. CEO Ricardo Garcia told SalmonBusiness in an email:
“The last 6 days have been stressful but today we are operating normally. Airfreight to Miami has not been discontinued, but with some volume reduction, which explains price adjustments.
Garcia added that the company will have a clearer picture of the situation, this week.
