Cermaq Chile harvests half a million salmon due to ISA virus

“This is an unfortunate situation”.

Cermaq Chile has had to harvest approximately 561,000 fish – an entire site at Ensenada RyS in Magallanes, Chile, after ISA virus was detected on November.

The salmon farmer told SalmonBusiness in a statement that the company harvested the pens that showed positive results.

“This is an unfortunate situation, but we are committed to the right way of doing things to avoid more risks”, said Cermaq Chile Managing Director Steven Rafferty.

“We believe it’s essential to work jointly with authorities – following all protocols indicated by Sernapesca – to keep on building a sustainable industry and minimize any risk this incident might pose for the Skyring area,” added Rafferty.
