In his defence, William MacKinnon pleaded to be let off so that he get out to sea and catch cleaner fish used in salmon farming to safeguard jobs at his company.

Press and Journal reports that a Skye, Scotland, fisherman has been jailed for three years for sex attacks on two women.

MacKinnon, of Dunvegan, was found guilty of committing two sex attacks against vulnerable women who were asleep and incapable of giving or withholding consent. One attempted rape in 2014 and a second offence in 2015.

MacKinnon denied the offences.

In his defence, read by his defence solicitor advocate Murray Macara QC, MacKinnon – who also ran a shellfish business – tried to claim that if he were home, he “would be able to fish for wrasse, used as cleaner fish in salmon farming”.

MacKinnon was jailed for three years and will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
