“Marsali” built by, Aas Mek. Verksted, to support Cooke Aquaculture Scotland contract.
Migdale Transport, which specialises in the transport of live fish across land and sea, has purchased the “Marsali”, a purpose-built wellboat thanks to a GBP 13.5 million loan from HSBC UK.
In a press release, the family-owned Sutherland firm and HSBC UK writes that the new ship will be used to support a recent contract with Cooke Aquaculture Scotland.
A spokesperson from the company told SalmonBusiness that the vessel was built by Norway’s Aas Mek. Verksted. “Marsali” is designed to cope with the challenging sailing conditions in Scotland and around Orkney and Shetland and is due to be delivered later this month.
The wellboat will have two holds making up a 1500m3 total volume. The vessel can load up to 210 tonnes of adult live salmon.
Migdale Transport MD Hugh Murray said despite “challenging economic circumstances” the vessel would be “future-proofing the business for years to come”. “This is a significant and exciting addition to our fleet, and we thank HSBC UK for recognising the benefits it will bring to our business and the local economy,” added Murray.
