The vessel is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of 2026.

Aker QRILL Company, January 8, 2025 – Aker QRILL Company has signed an agreement with Tersan Shipyard for the construction of its fourth krill fishing vessel. The project involves the acquisition and significant customization of a partially completed vessel originally intended for another purpose but left unfinished after its cancellation 18 months ago.

The new vessel is part of Aker QRILL Company’s strategy to strengthen its position as a global leader in krill harvesting and the production of krill-based ingredients. The vessel will operate under a Norwegian fisheries license in the CCAMLR-regulated Antarctic krill fishery, with operations expected to begin in Q3 2026.

The vessel will feature advanced technologies designed to ensure efficient and sustainable harvesting of Antarctic krill, a resource recognized as the world’s largest single-species biomass.

“This partnership represents an ideal solution for both parties,” said Webjørn Barstad, CEO of Aker QRILL Company. “Equipped with the latest technologies, this vessel will bolster our ambition to maintain leadership in the krill industry while ensuring access to renewable marine raw materials essential for sustainable aquaculture and animal nutrition.”

Economic and Environmental Benefits

The project will generate significant contracts for Norwegian maritime suppliers and drive advances in the use of alternative fuels, further embedding sustainability into Aker QRILL Company’s operations.

Tersan Shipyard, responsible for completing the vessel, welcomed the agreement. “This partnership provides valuable opportunities for both parties, and we are grateful for the chance to deliver this vessel,” said Vice President Ahmet Paksu.
