Ammonia leak reported at Chilean salmon processing plant

300 workers were evacuated at Los Fiordos plant.

An ammonia leak at Los Fiordos’ processing plant in Chiloe caused the evacuation of 300 workers on Tuesday, reported El Quellonino.

According to sources, the leak was in the machine room. Due to the levels of toxicity, the company decided to evict all personnel who were working the Tuesday morning shift.

By the afternoon, inspectors had the emergency under control and work was resumed by the evening.

Agrosuper is the Chilean parent company of Los Fiordos. In June last year, Los Fiordos bought Salmones Friosur in USD 229m deal.
