The Norwegian salmon farmer says he is set to take over the role from Henrik Krefting, who resigned last month.
Mr Vatne has a share of 4.2 per cent in Atlantic Sapphire via Vatne Equity. He is the owner of real estate and financial assets firm, Vatne Capital.
The announcement on the Oslo Stock Exchange says that this has allowed him to build ‘extensive experience’ in the sector.
He said: “Atlantic Sapphire is an important investment for Vatne Equity AS. I see joining the board as a logical continuation of my role as a long-term shareholder in Atlantic Sapphire.”
“The company is now entering its next expansion phase. I look forward to contributing actively to the continued development of a company that I believe has enormous potential to grow and create significant shareholder value producing delicious, healthy, sustainable seafood.”
Johan E. Andreasen, CEO of Atlantic Sapphire, added: “We are pleased that Runar Vatne is willing to join the board. Mr. Vatne is not only one of our largest investors, he also brings extensive experience and relationships in the financing and development of large, successful projects, that will benefit Atlantic Sapphire. This step in joining the board is a strong statement regarding his long-term belief in the company.”
Mr Vatne’s appointment is set to be voted on at an extraordinary general meeting next Tuesday in Miami, United States.
