Atlantic Sapphire leases fire-damaged Danish facility to Maiken Foods.

Atlantic Sapphire has signed a short-term lease agreement with Maiken Foods, allowing the Norwegian company to pilot its land-based fish farming operations at Atlantic Sapphire’s former Danish facility, which was destroyed by fire in 2021.

As part of the agreement, Maiken Foods has been granted a purchase option for the site, potentially enabling the development of a large-scale land-based salmon farming operation.

Atlantic Sapphire had previously used the facility as an innovation center before the fire forced the company to cease Danish operations and focus entirely on its Bluehouse salmon production in Miami, Florida.

The lease deal offers a possible future for the fire-damaged site, while Atlantic Sapphire continues its expansion in the US, where its Phase 2 development aims to increase annual production capacity to 25,000 tons, with a long-term target of 220,000 tons.
