Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) investigating reports of alleged illegal activity.

In a press release, Canada’s DFO reports that it is auditing a large-scale forensic audit of a British Colombia fish processor after reports of illegal fish bartering.

The DFO has not identified the name of the fish processing plant in its statement but says it is near Prince Rupert, B.C.

The federal department says it’s following up reports of alleged illegal activity on the north coast that includes fish bartered or sold in exchange for the cost of processing or other services, such as financial loans.

It added that it expects the audit to expose potentially illegal acts, but says it also needs to hear from anyone in the public who may have sent fish to the processing plant.
