The contract was signed at Bakkafrost’ s headquarters at Glyvrar, Faroe Islands.

In a press release, Bakkafrost writes that it has ordered a fully electric workboat. Construction is expected to be completed in December 2021

“With this project, we hope to inspire and provide important knowledge to the industry. Ships and boats play an important role in the Faroe Islands, and it is also in this sector that we find the biggest potential to reduce the overall Faroese GHG-emissions,” said Bakkafrost CEO Regin Jacobsen.

“We hope that this project will inspire the industry to begin the green transition of the maritime sector,” added Jacobsen. The salmon farmer has a goal to reduce the company’s GHG-emissions by 50 per-cent by 2030.

MEST is the biggest shipyard in the Faroe Islands.
