BC salmon farming companies get €1 million in government green tech funding

Chunk from the Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program goes to fish farming.

In a press release, the Government of Canada announced funding yesterday for fishing companies that have adopted clean technology. EUR 3.6 million has been put aside.

Farmed salmon companies are getting nearly EUR 1 million collectively. This latest Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program funding has significant investment from the federal government, along with additional funding from the Province of British Columbia. This is to create “a greener, more ecologically friendly fisheries and aquaculture industry in British Columbia”.

EWOS Canada is getting EUR 0.2 million funding to new waste water treatment and recycling system. Mowi Canada West is getting EUR 0.2 million to install a solar power system at its Dalrymple salmon hatchery. Cermaq Canada is getting the most, with EUR 0.5 million for its semi-closed containment farm system being tested in Clayoquot Sound.
