Benchmark Genetics names new lead for Salmon Genomics

Benchmark Genetics appoints Dr. Serap Gonen as Lead for Salmon Genomics.

Benchmark Genetics has named Dr. Serap Gonen as its new Lead for Salmon Genomics, effective January 1, 2025.

Dr. Gonen brings a background in salmon genetics and breeding, with previous roles at Mowi and AquaGen, where she managed and optimized breeding programs for salmon and trout. She completed her Ph.D. at the Roslin Institute in Scotland, focusing on disease resistance in Atlantic salmon, and has contributed to advancing genomic methods in aquaculture and livestock breeding.

In her new role, Gonen will oversee genomic innovations in Benchmark’s breeding programs, focusing on enhancing selection traits, improving disease resistance, and contributing to commercial product design. She will also engage in research and development projects aimed at introducing new traits and technologies.
