Blumar is the latest Chilean salmon producer looking to expand their presence in the local market.
The company joins Mowi Chile and Multi X who announced the expansion of their product distribution locally as summer started.
For the three producers, bringing their products closer to the community where they operate makes a lot of sense. Per the latest available export data, Chile has seen two of its overseas markets contract: Russia and China.
This week, Blumar announced its first retail store, “Mercado Blumar” (Blumar Market). “Through this initiative, the aim is to bring the consumption of salmon closer to the inhabitants of the communities where the industry is developed,” the company said.
The shop located in the Magallanes Region is also an “experience centre,” which means it will sell salmon but it will also be a venue for activities centred around gastronomic culture and salmon farming.
The space will open to the public in August.
